MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS

(October 2018 - March 2019)

Gaining work experience with the MEN involved working as a football writer for the newspaper - covering Salford City and Oldham Athletic matches and press conferences.

Unbeknown to me, as I was writing the articles for the Manchester Evening News, I found out that my grandfather, who died before I was born, was a sports feature writer for the MEN in the early 1960s.

THE HUDDERSFIELD DAILY EXAMINER

(1 day - 24th January 2019)

As part of my work experience with the Manchester Evening News, I also wrote for its sister paper, The Huddersfield Examiner. I attended the 2019 Super League media launch day at Old Trafford and interviewed Huddersfield Giants' Head Coach and players ahead of the new season.

THE LANCASHIRE TELEGRAPH

(1 week - October 2019 - November 2019)

Whilst on a work placement at The Bolton News, I was also producing work for The Lancashire Telegraph, as both media organisations are part of Newsquest Media Group Ltd and I was working for Adam Lord, who is the Sports Regional Editor. I was based on the sports desk as a sports reporter and wrote articles for the newspaper and online website, as well as covering Burnley and Accrington Stanley press conferences.

MAGAZINE JOURNALISM

(October 2019 - November 2019)

During the third year at University, I opted to study Magazine Journalism and for my assignment I was tasked to create a 12-page magazine. Using Adobe's InDesign to make the magazine, I based it on the aviation business and more specifically Manchester Airport.

I intended it to be part of a business magazine series that could cater for other airports in the UK if it was to be continuously published. Aiming at a specific audience of 30-50-year-olds, who have disposable income to travel and fly regularly, I wanted to produce a professional, sophisticated and polished magazine through its design and editorial tone.

I achieved a grade First for the Magazine Journalism module.
